UDMA on XP !!

Hi , I have a WD 20 Gb 7200RPM ATA100 and I can't set it to UDMA 5. XP(build 2505) set it to dma 2 which is much slower. . . Why is that and how can I fix that? Thanks BYE.

In BIOS, make sure it's set to UDMA 4 or 5, whichever is the highest you can set it.

a stupid question, but you ARE using an 80pin ide ribbon cable right?

indeed it sounds like a stupid question BUT IT'S NOT!!
I checked twice if my cable was an 80pin one, wrote to western digital, downloaded IDE drivers , etc... But finally I found out -thanks to you- that the guy who assembled my pc inverted the cd rom cable and the IDE cable...Blue end cable was not on the blue plug (that I didn't check)

sometimes the stupidest thing causes the biggest problems.
