Unable to run UT in w2k_sp2
I have installed UT both off the cdrom and hdd and still cannot run UT. I can go as far as running the initial setup to detect my hardware but when I hit run I get memory errors or link errors. I've also tried patching UT before running the setup for hardware right after installing UT and I get a botpack.

If I then try to execute the unrealtournament.exe I get this error "The procedure entry point ?appCreateProc@@YAXPBGO@Z could not be located in the dynamic link library Core.dll." I also get this error if I try to run UT through the Acompat.exe utility.

From what I've read in this forum there are those that are running UT. If anyone can share there work arounds with me I will appreciate very much, am jonesing for UT...lol!
If not I'll have no choice but to go back to 98(Urg!).

What a shame no one was able to answer my question. Anyhow I got UT running under w2k. Unfortunately I had to scratch my hdd install 98, load only my sound and video drivers, apply UT 436 updates and any other add-ons, custom maps, etc. Scratch my hdd again install w2k and presto UT is now running. I wish there was an easier way but I tried everything humanly possible to fool w2k into running UT. I don't if I should blame MS or Epic for this. But if I had too blame anyone it would be Epic for not addressing this issue, because I have been able to load other games without a hitch.

I guess no one answered because they didnt have any suggestions for you. You have a unique situation, as UT has been installing under Win2K without problem since its release last year. Sounds to me like you had something else munged that was causing the problem for UT. Sorry you had to jump through such hoops.

No need to appologize, I have a great understanding in the PC world with all the variations what works for one may not work for another. I just wish I new what it was in my particular situation, was it my BIOS, my vid card 3DFX VD3000/agp, sound card SB live value, my overclocked sys, etc., that was causing the memory errors as well as link errors.
Just so that you UT so far was the only app/game that I have had problems with which is why I found it so frustrating.
I have a really desent system almost all of my components are name components.
I'm planning on rebuilding my sys and switching to a high end AMD sys. Maybe that might prove to be an advantage. We'll see!

That's really odd that you've had problems like that. I know UT won't run if you OC to far, and the only other thing I can think of that has given me grief with UT has been some bad RAM.
I still have a V3 3000 AGP and, at least for me, I can run UT with 16 bots and good detail in 16-bit at 1152x865 and run well. Of course that's partially due to the Unreal engine being designed to run well on 3dfx cards.
For the AMD system, things run great. There is a patch you'll want for Win2k to stop the sys from crashing, but I keep that link handy so I can cut n paste it for the peeps. E-mail me if you want the patch link.
Other than that minor issue, things should run fine.

I'm curious now about the ram you may have something there, one of my sticks albeit name brand is different from the rest of my sticks. I have a total of 512, so I can afford to go with 128 less, 384 won't hurt me. As for my OC'd sys I've been running at the max but not over my sys is stable and has been that way over a year. I have a good albeit older OC'ing MoBo an ASUS p2b-f(flashed with the latest BIOS), PIII 550e(OC'd to 700MHz).
I'll experiement with ram next weekend. Thanks for idea!

I have had problems with UT as well. The problem that I am having is a protection fault error or something like that.It only seems to happen when I am playing online. I will be in the middle of an online game, and than the next minute I will am back to my desk top. It is really messed up. The game will run fine when I am not playing online.
