Upgrading Paradox 4.0 to 7.0

This is a discussion about Upgrading Paradox 4.0 to 7.0 in the Windows Software category; I am looking to upgrade Paradox 4. 0 to 7. 0 but since this program is used for only a couple of customers I would like to know the advantages or disadvantages of upgrading. Any help is appreciated! Tina K.

Starting with v5, Paradox became a windows application. v4 is a DOS only app. You can convert the data quite easily but if you have forms, reports, PAL scripts, etc., you will need to do a lot of work <redesign>. For example, v5 onwards uses ObjectPAL which is very different than PAL. In other words, if you have a custom application running on paradox v4, you will have to recreate it using the tools in v7. If you have no experience in v7, I would recommend using current software such as Corel Office X4 (which has the latest version of Paradox) or Access or OpenOffice. Paradox v7 is obsolete. Converting data (tables) is not that difficult from one database to another. The problem usually is with data quality which complicates conversion.
Hope this helps.
