HI,

Friends i m getting the problem in the USB.

I have got installed Microsoft Windows XP Proffessional with Service Pack-2.

Suddenly i got the error of ""USB Device Not Recognized""
when i try to plugin any outer device.

It gives me the msg :
One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and windows does not recognize it. For assistance in solving this problem,Click here.

After that i tried to open
Control Panel --> System --> Hardware --> Device Manager.

I don't want to re-install Windows XP.

Is there any other way ?

From where can i update the drivers.can anyone provide the link.
I tried re-installing the motherboard drivers again from the cd .But,still it does not work.

Where can i get the latest update for that drivers of USB 2.0 with SP-2 win'xp?

Unknown Device comes again and again.

I uninstall that, disable it but it appers when i connect the device into USB port as i said above.

Is there any changes to make in regedit.exe
I just searched on this site and tried out following but then to it does not worked with me.

Respond to 'USB Device Malfunctioned' error

Sometimes while using your USB camera and USB memory stick, your Windows XP SP2 PC may suddenly give you the error message: 'USB Device Malfunctioned' and ask you to disconnect and plug it in again. However, this fix doesn't always work.

Try this solution instead. In Device Manager, expand Universal Serial Bus Controllers and right-click the first 'USB Root Hub' and select 'Properties.' On the 'Advanced' tab, unselect 'Allow computer to disable this to save power.' Repeat for all USB hubs. This fixed the problem on my PC.

I think this problem is somewhat very common facing by all as the same topic questions are posted many times.

The above solution does not worked for me but may help others.
If anyone had face the same problem then do give me their solutions...

Hope to get a suitable reply. at the earliest.

Thanxssssss

Why not get PCI based USB card and disable the on-board USB and use that instead?

I have had this same problem too and tried so many ways to fix it. But still...no luck. BTW, this happened to all my devices (except mp3 player, printer and external HDD) when I reinstalled windows XP after my Dell Inspiron 9300 laptop caught the NewWin32 virus.
As soon as I find a solution that works,I be sure to post.

I tried everything anyone suggested except the PCI based USB card and the external usb hub. I haven't sent my laptop to Dell. http://www.compatdb.org/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/179132/page/0/fpart/1
