USB Device Not Recognized (External Hard Drive)

This is a discussion about USB Device Not Recognized (External Hard Drive) in the Windows Hardware category; I have seagate 500 gig external usb hard drive which i have been using on my Toshiba equium A200-15l laptop running windows vista home premium. I have used these two for about a year now without any problems and suddenly when i powered on my hard drive i got the following error message USB Device Not Recognized One ...

I have seagate 500 gig external usb hard drive which i have been using on my Toshiba equium A200-15l laptop running windows vista home premium. I have used these two for about a year now without any problems and suddenly when i powered on my hard drive i got the following error message "USB Device Not Recognized One of the USB devices attached to this computer has mulfunctioned and windows does not recognize it" In computer management the devise is showing as an Unknown device.

I did experiences this stupid situation, but with WD Scorpio Blue External HD. It's not only works on my laptop but others as well.What i did was, i try to replace other usb cable, it works for a little while and the same problem repeated again. I ask many of my friends regarding this mess, and finally find someone who successfully resolve this. He suggest me to change the enclosure and my External HD works as usual. Tq
