USB Device Not Recognized when using USB extension

This is a discussion about USB Device Not Recognized when using USB extension in the Windows Hardware category; USB Device Not Recognized bubble pops up when I plug something in with a USB extension cord I got today. It's the same with every USB port and all the USB devices work if theyre connected directly. Is there some kind of driver I can install for the extension cord? TIA.

Hi,
This is a common problem encountered by many people of late. Unfortunately no one can identify exactly what causes it and as far as I know no one has been able to find a fix for it yet. I am currently trying to solve the same problem with a friends PC, he gets the message every time he plugs his Ipod shuffle in.

As silly as it sounds, have you done a Windows Update with the USB extension cable plugged in? It might show a driver update. That is at least a start.

Also, what type of USB ports do you have? If you are trying to use a USB 2.0 device on a v1 USB port, then you could run into trouble with that as well.
