USB modem BSOD, fine on reboot, what's going on here?

This is a discussion about USB modem BSOD, fine on reboot, what's going on here? in the Windows Hardware category; Ever since I installed my USB ADSL modem in XP I get bluescreens on completed startup. The weird thing is that when I reboot everything's fine (except for running Scandisk, of course). It seems that a cold boot from powerup does something to my system which doesn't happen in a hot reset.

Config:
Eicon Diva USB ADSL on W2K drivers (the culprit!)
ACPI: IRQ9 has with SBlive, TNT2, USB Host
Asus A7V133
VIA 4-in-1 4.35
XP SP1
Bootmagic 6.0 dual boot with Win98SE, which is running fine
Pagefile.sys shared with 98SE, fixed to 1000 MB on a separate partition. No swapfile on c:\.

I tried disabling ACPI, various bioses and bios tweaks, but no luck so far. Hope someone can help, it doesn't look like Eicon will have XP drivers ready for another two months.
