Are they built in USB ports?
Are they USB 1.1 or 2.0 type ports?
Which OS are you using?
What are you plugging into the USB Ports?

Yes they are connected inside. My problem seemed to start when I connected a digital camera to one of the usb ports. After that my my modem at first gave out a brief red light then after that nothing at all,in any of the ports.I would gladly welcome any advice.

I know this will sound crazy, but it does work (sometimes). Power down your computer. Then, unplug it from the wall. Wait about an hour before you plug it in and power it up again. I am not sure why this works, but it often brings back usb's into synch.
