UT loves RAM, thus it has blown your swapfile right up. Just shrink your swapfile back to your old size.
And, if that's the case, lack of sufficient HDD space could also be why UT bombed.

the problem isn't that UT crashed, it's the fact that i have no idea what it did with that hard drive space.
i tried to delete the swap file and remake it at the normal size but it still said i had 5 megs free.

You don't by chance still have the dump file on your machine do you? It could be huge, and therefore tying up a lot of space after the crash. You can find its location by right-clicking on "My Computer", and going to properties. Then go to the "advanced" tab and select "startup and recovery". Check the file path for your dump file (normally it's just "memory.dmp" in the System Root directory) and see if it's still on your machine and how big it is. Just a thought.

ok i deleted all those found.00x folders. there were 3 of them on my 98 partition and 1 on my 2000 partition. they were only about 5 or 6 megs total tho.
i looked for the dump file and it wasn't where it said it was so i assume winows must have got rid of it or something.
also, anybody know how big SP1 is after it installs? i did the install from web thing or whatever since i have dial up and didn't want to wait for an 80 meg download. i don't think i checked my free space after i installed it so i might not have had as much as i thought... i don't understand how like 20 megs or so could decompress to 300 though... hmmm...
thanks.

well i did the install from web thing, because it didn't download as much.(it only got the stuff it needed for whatever version u had, professional, server, etc.)
i'm just wondering how much it decompressed to. i don't think ut ate my free space, because i had it crash on me again today and it didn't do that. so it must've been service pack 1.
i uninstalled some games so i have enough space for a pagefile now. everything seems to be back to normal. except ut is still crashing. i got the Via AGP and win2k fix. it takes longer to crash now.(about 10-15 minute) and before it only took about 2-5. i don't really know what to do. i supose i will just have to switch it back to opengl.

Are you overclocking your T-Bird or your V770 Ultra? UT is pretty processor-intensive, a real heat generator.

no. i was overclocking my tnt2. but i put it back to normal to see if it would make my system any more stable. unfortunately it didnt. though now it seems pretty stable in every game except UT, which is also the only game i run in D3D.
also my cpu runs at about 55 degrees C w/o the case on. if i put the case on it goes over 60. i thought they were suposed to run right around 40 or so aren't they? i got the biggest HS & F they had there. i'm not sure what brand it's made by and i cant read it right now since it's spinning.
u think it could be overheating in UT?
it doesnt freeze in half-life or quake 3 or anything else.
do i need to invest in some case fans and put the case back on it?
thanks.

Briefly, I dunno. Makes me wonder if your power supply is high enough wattage, also.
We're kinda having the same conversation in a thread over at the www.3dfiles.com message board, too.

well the cool guys(their name's rhyme with A-Open) who designed my case put the power supply right by the cpu. last time i get an Aopen case.
hmmm well it's a 235w power supply. the guy i bought the A7V and tbird from said u needed 200. hmmm?
i'm thinkin about getting a Tornado 1000 w/ 300w power supply so i don't have to mess with cutting the case myself, cuz i know i'll screw that up.

Well there's your problem. You really should have a 300W PS if you're using an Athlon with a TNT2 card. The guy who told you 200 must have been smoking crack, because it shouldn't even boot with only 200W.

that explains his twitchiness, and the reason he was willing to sell it all off real cheap.
well i guess that gives me a reason to buy a good case. can't just upgrade the power supply. ooo no. hehehe
actually the sticker on the antistatic back the A7V came in also said 200. maybe it just meant for the board. those crazy Asusians. hehehe.
