I have a few socket 7 motherboards here & I'm not sure what chips will work in it, I also have a socket 462 board.

The best way is to search the manufacturers page for a cpu compatibility list.

Maybe the chipset supports a certain cpu but it doesn't mean that a mobo with this chipset will support it.
BTW socket 7 comes in different flavors.
You have to look at the chipset. i430vx, mvp3 (suports amdk6 processors)...
