The GeForce was very stable on my machine, now, are the newer just as stable or more stable?

I would love to own an ATI Radeon 64MB with video in/out. I haven't heard much about the ATI Radeon - the goods, the bads.

I seek suggestions and I don't have the money to spend much.

I use my machine to play the Age of Empires series... The first release, the second release and the latest: the conquerors.
That's about the only game I play. I would love to watch DVDs / DivX on my computer as well. Sometimes, I use the computer to do flash/photoshop stuff. Briefly, I mainly use it for music, age of empires series, chatting, a bit of others.
I attend very much to *compatibility*, **stability**, reliability then speed along with cost.

Suggestions?

From what I've read about the Radeon:

goods:
------
best all-around card out
runs at huge resolutions [1280x1024 or don't bother]
DVD decoding onboard

bads:
-----
less than spectacular driver support for Win2K
high co$t
not the absolute fastest [GF2Ultra]
