W2K to W2k3 Migration
This is a discussion about W2K to W2k3 Migration in the Windows Networking category; Ok, let me get this straight. . . i have this server runing W2k server, then I'm adquiring a new server which will run W2k3. . . , the question is, what do i need exactly to migrate the AD of the W2k server to the new one?.
Ok, let me get this straight...i have this server runing W2k server, then I'm adquiring a new server which will run W2k3..., the question is, what do i need exactly to migrate the AD of the W2k server to the new one?....it will be very helpful an step by step guide to do so, if possible...thanx a lot guys.

Assuming you want to move the AD domain info across then:
a) Join server to original domain
Install DNS on new server
b1) Run ADPREP from W2003 CD to install new 2003 objects
c) Run DCPromo to set up DC and let objects replicate across automatically.
d) Move FSMO roles across using AD MMCs
e) Run DCPromo on old server to remove it from its DC role
f) Retire old server

P.S.: think that before runing DCPromo on the old server I had to set the new server as the Master operations server.
