Welcome to the fun world of FF7 under Win2k.
There is no way around the chocobo races that I'm aware of other than to play it on a different OS for that part of the game.

you are right Hopefully I kept 3 gigabytes to install windows Misery Edition, so I can pass this quest.
but under win2k itself, it jammed at the sub marine quest ... the chocobo races were just fine.
ever tried to pass the sub quest in windows xp???
