Weird errors with disk controller, video drivers

Last night I tried to install the new Detonator 3 Drivers, and when I rebooted, I was using my VGA driver. How nice. When I manually tried to install them, it told me it could not find a file. I'm totally at a loss.

Last night I tried to install the new Detonator 3 Drivers, and when I rebooted, I was using my VGA driver. How nice. When I manually tried to install them, it told me it could not find a file. I'm totally at a loss. When I tried to install the old ones, it gave the sam error. I'm currently using the stock drivers, but they suck.

When I checked my event log, it gave me his error:
"The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk0\DR0." I got that 5 times, then got this message:
"A parity error was detected on \Device\Ide\IdePort0." then followed by the first one. Any ideas as to what is going on??

Thanx.

It may just be a corrupt file or file table, so run scandisk, and also do a surface test. If win2k hangs during the scan, try again in dos. Also if you have linux, beos, or have re-partitioned your hardrive, you may have overlapping partitions, I have suffered frtom that twice, one from the corel linux install, and from partition magic 5. The last option i can think of is that your harddrive is beginning to die. I got the same errors with an old 6.4gb hd last year. It had malfunctioned, and I found that the chips were seriously overheating, when it got hot it stoped working. It would make the usually noises, then it would do a burst of continuous (nay, frantic) searching, stop, and the HD light would stay on.

OP
My hard drive is relatively new, an IBM 30.0 GB 7200 ultra ATA 100 drive, and its been perfectly fine for me until recently. Scandisk and Norton Disk Doctor show nothing, so I may just re-install.

Try deleting all nv*.* and oem*.* files first, and re-install any AGPgart/chipset drivers. Make sure you get those files in /winnt/inf, as they're hidden.
