Ultima 7 was great... it's even more fun with Exult (an interpreter for the game that runs under xp).
You've missed my favourite off the list.
Ultima Online.
Played that for 18 months and loved more or less every minute of it, that was until they started dumbing it down and making it easy for new players to achieve in weeks what had taken me 12 months.

Ultima 7 The Black Gate and Ultima 7 Part 2 Serpent Isle were both great games. The Black Gate was probably one of the first games I played on PC and had me hooked for years.
Ultima V was easily the best of the run. The story was great. It was very easy to pull an all-nighter on this game without even realizing it. They whole series started going downhill starting with VI. VII was interesting, but I couldn't be bothered to finish it. It was the first Ultima I became bored with. VIII was a joke and should be ignored. I don't have anything nice to say about IX, either.
I voted Ultima 4 and I played it on my Atari ST
