Firewall and Anti-Virus software perform 2 different tasks. In general, I would recommend both in some fashion. In my case, I use the NAT functionality of my router as a firewall for my network, and McAfee Netshield on my Win2K AS box, and ViruScan 4.5 on my Win2K Pro and NT4 boxes.
IMO, put the firewall and anti-virus on the
server and then anti-virus software on the workstation. For best results both firewall and anti-virus should be used on all computers. I'm refering to software based firewalls in the above statement.
In my setup, the Linksys router is used for
NAT/firewall for my network. Since the computer used to post this response downloads many files from the net a software firewall and anti-virus is used.
I use Tiny Personal Firewall and VirusScan 5.1 on Win 2000 Pro (beta SP-2).

I reccomend Black Ice for Firewall..It's the best i've ever used...and will only use it now.
And I recommend SOPHOS for Antivirus...It's simply the best...Awesome networking capabilities...(automatically upgrade your whole network's virus def's from one console.)

I'm slightly surprised that no one mentioned ZoneAlarm.
I personally use ZA Pro(parents use regular ZA)...and have had good luck with it.
however...I would assume this to be geared more towards workstations than servers...
ZA is free. ZA Pro is free too, if you have friends
I'm running W2K AS as well...
for AntiVirus...Norton's Corporate Edition is working well on this machine.

Anti Virus - Sophos
Firewall - Zone Alarm Pro
Firewall - Zone Alarm Pro
if your company will allow it get a hard firewall. deprogram the outbound router and let the firewall do all the filtering. computers are better than routers at doing that anyway.
I use NAT in Win2k Server for my firewall, which is pretty good. For antivuris, I use NAV corporate edition. I find that works well when rolling out new DAT files to all the workstations. But the best anti-virus software I own is NAV for Gateways (exchange, notes, and the such).. I run a NT4.0 Server with Exchange 5.5 and NAV for Gateways has stopped VBS virii a few times that would hvae set us back a day trying to get rid of that **** . Whenever I recieve a notice that somone sent us a virus, I email that person and recommend they get Nav for gateways.

Im using ZenOK Free Antivirus , Im just contented with its feature and everything doing fine with my Pc for now..
I use Outpost Pro Firewall. I can't stand Zone Alarm, it interrupts too much.
