I'll inform you before someone else...MS added in the 30-day activation policy into Whistler. But, all beta testers use the same master cd key to install it, which means, only one tester could activate if he/she chose so. Therefore, MS has to release builds quicker. And yes, it is out, I just finished getting it from MS last night. I think they are planning for bi-weekly releases now.
Hell, here is some more proof..

Oh heavens mercy...
2296 ran fine for me, but the 241x releases have been rather painful.
Apparently, MS is ripping apart at the internals of the OS, probably so it supports more 98 features...one thing I think MS will fail it. You can't emulate crappy code without...well...writing the crappy code again.
At any rate, the 241x releases, for some reason, are WORSE than 2296 because I'm getting BSODs, slowdowns, and the network card utterly refuses to work, despite the fact it worked in 2296 and Win2k. Oh yes, and the memory leak is still there.
Again, mileage may vary for someone else, but my recommendation is to avoid it for now unless you like pain and suffering. Hopefully, the "official" beta 2 will be better, and if it's not, expect major delays.

1) I am a legit tester, and in the newsgroups, we have reported bugs, but nothing like your saying with 2410 or 2416, but we received a bit with 2419
2) anybody in their right mind would say that 24xx is better than 2296 unless you have serious problems.
3) It's a beta and nobody is forcing you to install it
4) Your computer configuration either sucks or isn't well supported with Whistler yet
5) 98 Support will not fail, it's just the same as Windows 2000 with the QFixApps thing, only better and that never failed
6) That's right, you can wait for Beta 2. So why did you bother posting this useless flame fest about it?
7) I've never seen someone have so many problems with it before. Your the first, so maybe it's your computer or maybe it's you?
8) It will NOT be delayed, I am a tester, they post schedules in the newsgroups. Of course it isn't going to be a April RTM, but they are working on a June or July RTM.
9) Give them a break already, you can't have it your way, right away, this isn't Burger King and like all things, they are not perfect. (except when it's done, it'll be the most important Windows release since Windows 95)
Anyways, waste of my time even posting this, but someone had to say it. Whew..i'm done

I am not flaming the OS or MS in this case. I am writing my experiences. And they weren't good, despite the fact 2296 ran wonderful except for memory usage problems, and the fact it still had the same compatibility issues Win2k had (such as certain windows based emulators still not working).
Oh, and about the beta concept. I seriously think MS has redefined this concept greatly. It used to be that a "beta" was code with a completed feature set, that was at the testing stage. Granted, no one, not even MS does this anymore, and betas these days seem more like alphas, and Release Candidates more like betas.
Again, you're right, I didn't have to do this, and paid the price. I was merely pointing out others that they may want to wait to possibly avoid the problems I encountered. But to make this clear, I was not flaming MS or their OS. Theres plenty of that going on in any linux board, slashdot, or hell, any popular nerd-visited site. I for one am hoping MS achieves their goal with Whistler, because I would love to have an OS that runs whatever 98 does (or at least most) and doesn't crash like every 5 minutes.

ok, but the point is, you post it almost as if everyone agrees and everyone is using your configuration. It varies greatly. RTM of Windows 2000 was great, RTM of Whistler will be too. The whole point is that it's a beta. 2416 doesn't seem like an alpha, so I don't know where your getting at. I mean, the last release of Windows 2000 before RC1, I can't remember which that was, on my system, it was good to run as a primary OS by then. It takes time and it probably won't be very good for most until RC1 of Whistler. But I have heard from many that they are moving to it as their primary OS when Beta 2 comes out. The point is...BETA!!!!!!!!!! not finished product
