why doesnt the sims work on windows 2000?

This is a discussion about why doesnt the sims work on windows 2000? in the Windows Games category; i installed the game and just when it began. . the screen turns blue and says an error has occured(Asp4wave). What do i do? I desperately need help!!!!.

i've installed it and it works for me. try downloading the 1.1 patch and see if that works. have u got games compatibility patch installed or SP1?

Looks like your sound card is the culprit. You can thank Creative Labs for suing Aureal out of business before they could complete their Windows 2000 drivers. I'm willing to bet you've got an Athlon, since the Athlon chipsets usually don't work right with Aureal-based cards under Windows 2000.
 
Try pulling your sound card and seeing if that fixes it. If so, your only option unfortunately is probably to replace your sound card with something not based on a Vortex chip.

;( Aureal wasn't excactly forthcoming with drivers before they died. I guess it's nice to blame something when you don't know what to blame. ;(
