Why such slow up speed?
This is a discussion about Why such slow up speed? in the Windows Networking category; Im trying to send a file to a friend of mine but it's only upping at 21KB/sec and my upload speed from my ISP is 256, he's got a good cable connection too. I tried using AIM and Easy File Sharing, and getthe same speeds.

Any ideas on how we can make this faster?
Thanks,

different connections have different ratios.
I have a 576kps connection, and d/l and upload at 288kps.
File trasnfers usually start of really high, but level out at around 58kps.

and you have to take into account network traffic congestion, much like your local freways/hiways during rush hour
OP
I would be happy with 58, that's over twice as fast.
It doesn't matter what time of the day or night we try it, it's always in the low 20's. Almost reminds me of Dial-Up,,hehe

Bear in mind that, if you're using ADSL, the upload and download speeds differ (hence the A in ADSL). Cable network connections also tend to be asymmetrical as well.
The download speed is probably 512kbps (which will give you a download speed of 55-60Kb/sec), the upload speed will probably be 256kbps (which will give you an upload speed of 25-30Kb/sec)
Other factors like network congestion etc will also affect upload and download speeds, so while the theoretical maximum speed for 256kbps upload is 32Kbps, that speed is unlikely to be reached because of other factors.
