It does not seem to have netbeui running and yet win98 can login and see the drives. When I check properties of the drives it says NTFS. Can anyone tell me how this can be done?

Netbeui is an old protocol, it is superceded by TCP/IP. You need TCPIP, Client for Microsoft Networks and possibly File and Print sharing enabled to view drives on the server.
