Win2k Dialup Problems

I was using win me at first and my connection worked fine, but after I installed win2k my connection got really messed up. I would log online and about every 15 minutes I would get kicked offline. There would be no error message or anything like that.

I was using win me at first and my connection worked fine, but after I installed win2k my connection got really messed up. I would log online and about every 15 minutes I would get kicked offline. There would be no error message or anything like that. I know that it is no idle disconnect since I put that on "never." I just don't know what is wrong. I emailed my isp server and they said it was a problem with win2k.
Please Help!

Does the modem have its own IRQ? Maybe if it is sharing it may get screwed up and disconnect. Thats the only thing I can think of right now. Hope it helps.

I tried assigning my modem its own irq but it still kicks me off at about every 15 minutes. Thanks for the suggestion anyway.

Is it the drivers? Have you tried moving the card to a different PCI slot? Maybe Win2k is a picky b1tch.

Hrrmmm... I'm thinking. Let me know on those and I'll let you know if I have any more ideas.

I tried both the win2k default drivers and the offical drivers from diamond. Both of them still has the same problems. I also tried moving the modem to 3 different pci slots and I still experience the same problems. I am going to get a new modem to see if my currently modem is messed up.

Its a fresh install. I formatted the hard drive and then installed win2k from scratch on it.

At first I tried it without service pack 2, but it didn't work. I was still getting kicked offline. So I updated to service pack 2 and it still doesn't work.

man your pretty much out of options. I would just re-format again and try a different way to get it to work this time.

This is far out, but perhaps the modem is damaged in some way that Win2k has difficulty operating it properly... I cannot think of anything else. I am not master techs like some of these guys. But I am getting there.

just to check, there are actually 2 places to set the idle disconnect. One is in the connection properties on the options tab, and the other is in internet explorer properties, connection tab, settings, advanced. Make sure neither of those places is set to disconnect.

Failing that, I would bug your ISP about it - writing it off as just a problem with win2k is pretty cheap.... many many people use DUN in win2k just fine, myself included.

I checked both the idle disconnect options and they are both off. I guess it could be the isp, but it is hard to believe that an isp does not support win2k.

I finally fixed my connection problem! I went down the list of access numbers for my isp and after 5 different numbers, I found one that doesn't disconnect me.

Thanks for all the help guys.
