Win2K Questions
This is a discussion about Win2K Questions in the Windows Software category; Recently I was checking out some tweak guides related to services. All recommend to disable Alerter. My problem is I have no alerter in my services!! Where did it go? I'm also missing some other stuff, small stuff like Computer Browser & etc.
Recently I was checking out some "tweak" guides related to services. All recommend to disable "Alerter". My problem is I have no alerter in my services!! Where did it go? I'm also missing some other stuff, small stuff like "Computer Browser" & etc. Why/how? Older Windows version? (5.00.2195).
Also I think I have login features wrong. I'm the only one that uses my computer. When my machine boots to Windows a login screen comes up but auto logs me in as "my name" which has admin permissions. Why when I install programs most of the time I cannot edit/remove the shortcuts on the startmenu via add/remove shortcuts (also on the startmenu)? It seems I have to do it manual by going into the main folder. Example:
I install PSP. It throws a shortcut to:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs
Then when I try to edit the shortcut via the manager under settings, taskbar it goes to:
C:\Documents and Settings\Jason Xtreme\Start Menu\Programs
Well since the shortcut isnt their I have to manualy delete/edit it. Know what I mean?

Enforcer.
Alerter and Computer browser are services that run only if you a part of a network. Don't worry about them.
As for the second problem, I'm sure I could help if I understood you.
I don't really get your question. Sorry.

you'll have to obviously logon as Admin to change those shortcuts.... You can stop the Auto logon by using TweakUI or goto system properties and click the Network ID tab and follow the prompts.
It's best if when you setup 2k, you tell windows that the Admin should be the generic user (if you're the only user) and then rename the Admin account if you wish to do so. It;s easiest this way and saves hastles wiht different user profiles like you have. You CAN still change over and use the Admin account from now onwards, but many things will have to be re-setup for that account.

OP
I am a admin, & I can change the shortcuts just not via the start menu.
Being and Admin and using the Admin account are two different things, since they are seperate users.
OP
It's not any different. When I login as "administator" it's all the same.
