Windowed UT w/ 3.76 TNT2 Drivers

After searching the forum, I found references that said the stock Win2K drivers wouldn't work as there was no OpenGL or AGP support. Well, I installed the latest (3. 76) drivers for the TNT2 and I still get the windowed version.

After searching the forum, I found references that said the stock Win2K drivers wouldn't work as there was no OpenGL or AGP support.

Well, I installed the latest (3.76) drivers for the TNT2 and I still get the windowed version.

I checked my DX7 control panel, under DirectDraw (not sure if this is even the right place to check) and when I click 'Installed Drivers', the box comes up blank. Isn't there supposed to be drivers listed in there for my TNT2?

I then tried to reinstal DX7 from a site that had the DX7 install for Win2K. This didn't seem to help either. Even though I tell it to use DX7, it still seems to use the Software in the window.

One last question also: When installing UT under Win2K, should I select to include the DX7 components that are on the CD? I wasn't sure if that would mess things up.

Any help would be greatly appriciated.

You don't say what build you have, so all the comments will be based on build 2195 - which is the gold RTM build.
You also don't say if you're trying UT in D3D or OpenGL...

1. Don't install any DX7 kit - DX7 is built in to this build of W2K.
2. Install the latest UT patch - 405b.
3. Install the latest D3D update for UT.
4. Once you've installed the latest video drivers, run DXDIAG to ensure you have D3D and AGP.

YuppieScum:

Thanks for the reply. Just to clarify -

I'm using build 2195 and I am trying to run UT in D3D mode.

1. When you say don't install the DX7 kit - you mean the kit that comes with the UT install correct?

2. I installed the latest patch for UT (405b).

3. I wasn't aware there was a D3D update for UT - where can I find this?

4. As mentioned, I used the 3.76 drivers. When I run dxdiag, under the 'Display' tab in the notes section it reports:

"The file nv4_disp.dll is uncertified, which means that it has not been tested by Microsoft's Windows Hardware Quality Labs. You may be able to get a certified driver from the manufacturer of the hardware device."

It is listed as 'Not Available' for D3D and AGP support.

After reading through all posts concerning UT and TNT2 drivers I've seen some comments on installing the updated drivers.

1. The first time I installed UT, I installed the kit. Did this install some drivers that will confuse UT? I uninstalled the game, but wasn't sure if they would be cleaned out.

2. My system seems pretty hosed at the moment. Would you advise reinstalling? And if so, when should I specify the video drivers? What version would you suggest I use?

Thanks for all of the help, and sorry I wasn't more specific on my first post.
