Windows 2000 with an old computer
This is a discussion about Windows 2000 with an old computer in the Customization Tweaking category; Hello ;( I'm running Windows 2000 on my Pentium 133 mhz with 128 MB RAM. I'm only using it for running couple of IRC bots 24/7 and sometimes surfing the web. I haven't found it being too slow, but if you have any tips to disable some useless stuff, please tell me.
Hello ;(
I'm running Windows 2000 on my Pentium 133 mhz with 128 MB RAM.
I'm only using it for running couple of IRC bots 24/7 and sometimes surfing the web. I haven't found it being too slow, but if you have any tips to disable some useless stuff, please tell me. It's ONLY being used for internet surfing/e-mail reading/running the irc bots.
Thanks in advance.

The RAM is above the minimum, but the CPU is the bare minimum required to run---which isn't that big of a deal. When you have a few extra $$ to spend, look into buying a slightly faster CPU for more speed. That, and if you're using SDRAM, might want to bump it up a little more. Yer lookin' at no more than USD$50 total. Don't spend more than that.
A hardware upgrade would do you more good than turning off services.

Absolutely..
Your CPU is at the lower end, but here is the guide on how to optimize Windows 2000 to run much faster on older hardware (note these instructions even work for Windows XP)
