Okay, we currently have the Standard version of Small Business Server. Does Microsoft offer a solution to upgrade to the premium version? We need the SQL server portion. If not, will purchasing SQL Server seperately and installing it on the SBS machine still be compatible? I've looked on the website, but can't find ...

You need to buy upgrade version from your MS supplier.
