windows 98se networking

i have two mechines that are running windows 98se. I have them networked together with a crossover cable and two ethernet cards the two coumputers do not see each other and most of the time do not see themselfs.

i have two mechines that are running windows 98se. I have them networked together with a crossover cable and two ethernet cards
the two coumputers do not see each other and most of the time do not see themselfs. i get a unable to browes the network error when id try to look at the prop. or try to use the find coumputer feacture. can any one tell me what to check? thank you

Perhaps, if you would go through the steps that you used to network the computers, we would have a clue. Did you install netbeui? You could go here: http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/netbeui.htm to step you through that. Or, did you use TCP/IP and asssign addresses? Again, if you will give some specifics, it would help.
