I recently installed a new server, Windows Small Business Server 2003 Standard. I set up the users on the server and then setup the workstations with the user name on the new domain. I have had problems with two of the workstations. On one, when I go to open excel the windows installer comes up, doesn't really do anything, and eventually the program opens. It does this each time I open excel(doesn't seem like a big deal until you wait 1 min. each time you go to open excel). When I go to install a new program I get an error message from Windows Installer "the windows installer could not be accessed. this can occur if you are running in safe mode or if windows installer is not correctly installed." I am having the exact problem on two computers, on both the installer was working fine before i setup the new user on the new domain. I think it has something to do with the permissions for windows installer but the new users have administrative privelages. Any ideas on how I can get windows installer to work correctly for the users on the new domain? I am having this problem on my computer and I log on as the Domain Admin and should have full privelages on all computers.

Man, you hit the nail on the head. I have reloaded four times on my home pc because of the same exact problem. I was planning on another Saturday of loading software this weekend. After reading your post, I went into my C: drive and returned it to original settings (everyone with full control). Now my installer is working like a champ. Thank you.
