it's somewhere here
sysoc.inf
you will see a line like this
ims=imsinsnt.dll,OcEntry,ims.inf,hide,7
make it look like this (take the hide out)
ims=imsinsnt.dll,OcEntry,ims.inf,,7
there are a few lines u can do that too and remove unwanted bloat-ware

Or just run this command: RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

Thanks a lot.
Just make sure you don't download any patches or fixes for it from MS.com, once installed on an Enterprise ver of XP Pro, Messenger refuses to budge. Which is annoying, especially if you've uninstalled it from 20 machines, and then run the XP upgrades without looking at what they all are.

Nice comp catdog and thanks. I need to install it again because I have MSN Explorer(Free for 6 Months).
updates dont reinstall messenger

(shoulda been a little more clear)

You mean that it does not install it when it is required to have it with MSN? It is still not there? It says that it installed it. When I click on it in start menu it does not say that it is looking for it. It just does nothing.

Take a standard Enterprise edition of XP, build it, Uninstall Messenger using the sysoc.inf mod, then run Windows update and try to tell me that it doesn't install, and subsequently cannot be removed.
Go do it now, I dare you
