Windows XP / 98SE dual boot..need help

This is a discussion about Windows XP / 98SE dual boot..need help in the Everything New Technology category; I currently have only Windows XP installed on my system. However, I recently found an old 2 GB hard drive and put it in my computer. I would like to put Windows 98 SE on this second drive. I tried formatting the second drive to FAT32, then copying all the setup files from the WIn98 cd to the same drive.

I currently have only Windows XP installed on my system. However, I recently found an old 2 GB hard drive and put it in my computer. I would like to put Windows 98 SE on this second drive. I tried formatting the second drive to FAT32, then copying all the setup files from the WIn98 cd to the same drive. I then used a boot disk to get to that drive in DOS. I started the Windows 98 setup but recieved an error after the initial welcome to Win98 setup screen. Do I have to install Windows 98 first? Because I really do not want to have to reinstall Windows XP. Any ideas on how I could do this without completely reinstalling?

Also has anyone ever used the Romtec Trios Hard Drive selector? Is it worth the money?

Installing Windows 98 first and then xp is the only way of doign it that i know of. What i have done tho is installed win98 on a second hard drive and put that on the secondary ide bus. If i wish to load up windows 98 i have to go into my bios and select the bootable device as IDE-1. I did this because i personally didn't like the idea of dual boot, end up having too many partitions! I just disconnect my 98 drive when i do not use it.

Hope that helps

Thanks killersheep i may try that. From what I've seen, the Trios drive selector will do the same thing for you without having to open the case, so I may give that a try but maybe not, i dont really want to spend 50 bucks on it. I wont be using Win98 a whole lot, just when i play old dos games and such, so good idea, thanks again

Nah, I'm too much into the CnC games, more of the classic adventures from Lucasarts, Sierra etc.
