windows xp crashes in safe mode?!?! help plz
hi guys, i'm new to the forum here, but i decided to sign up because i've read many posts here that has helped me in the past. i recently reformatted my pc because it was such a mess, but now everytime i log onto safe mode, the debug/crash screen shows up everytime i open ANY windows explorer window.
hi guys, i'm new to the forum here, but i decided to sign up because i've read many posts here that has helped me in the past. i recently reformatted my pc because it was such a mess, but now everytime i log onto safe mode, the debug/crash screen shows up everytime i open ANY windows explorer window. i click on debug and it asks if i wanna go to system restore or back to safe mode. of course i say safe mode because system restore never works for me. the funny thing is that it never crashes in normal windows and only safe mode. when i try to shutdown/restart it in safe mode, it hangs at the "closing network connections" screen and i gotta manually shut it down. any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanx in advance guys.

Check your Event Viewer for errors.
Start->Run: eventvwr.msc
Or, try to repair the XP installation.

To reinstall Windows XP by starting your computer from the Windows XP CD, follow these steps:

3. You receive the following message on the Welcome to Setup screen that appears:
This portion of the Setup program prepares Microsoft Windows XP to run on your computer:
To setup Windows XP now, press ENTER.
To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R.
To quit Setup without installing Windows XP, press F3.
Press ENTER to set up Windows XP.
4. On the Windows XP Licensing Agreement screen, press F8 to agree to the license agreement.
5. Make sure that your current installation of Windows XP is selected in the box, and then press R to repair Windows XP.
6. Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to reinstall Windows XP. After you repair Windows XP, you may have to reactivate your copy of Windows XP.

Sounds like you have a driver issue. I would suggest replacing the video card driver first (most sensative) and work your way up.
