Hi All,

I'm having problems getting Windows XP Pro SP1 (The only version of it I have) to boot and go through the setup/restore process. I have a Sony Vaio VGN-FS model laptop which I originally configured as a Dual boot Win XP Pro/Red Hat Linux ES, but this has recently been corrupted. The problem started shortly after I upgraded to IE7, but coincided with me changing domains too and since then all sorts of things have gone wrong. I wanted to try a restore but when I reboot with the XP CD in the drive, it flashes up with 'Setup is inspecting your computers hardware configuration...' for a few seconds and then goes blank and nothing happens. Does anyone know why?

Many thanks!

It could be the boot block or MBR being corrupted and Win XP cannot make any sense of it. You need to completely wipe the HD using a tool to remove the partitions and reset the MBR before reinstalling XP.
