Windows XP questions

1. What program do you guys use to view pictures? What I want is VERY simple. I want the image to show up AT FULL SIZE and preferably with the window maximized. 2. When I put my mouse pointer over a picture, this little box pops up with options - save, print, email, open.

2. When I put my mouse pointer over a picture, this little box pops up with options - save, print, email, open. You guys know what I'm talking about? It's very annoying and I would like to get rid of it. Do you know how?

3. When I build my new computer in the next few days, I'm going to reformat my HD. How do I format with NTFS? I plan on using FDISK to delete and create new partitions. But if I format with my Win98 boot disk, won't it use FAT 32?

4. In WinXP is there anyway to get back the "preview pane" or whatever it was called in WinME. If I were to click on a file, it would tell me the size, date modified, and other stuff over on the left. Hard Drives would show a pie chart of space left/space used. Not a big deal, but I think they are using that "common tasks" crap now. I've just shut that off....

I'm full of questions. I'll probably think of more...give me time.

1. I use the Picture Viewer (comes integrated with WinXP). I does the job quite nicely. You can zoom in & out, go to next or previous photo, save, print, delete...see if it covers your needs. I was using ACDSee in Win2K

2. No idea, sorry!

3. During the set up of WinXP, there will be a screen that will let you create/delete partitions and format them in FAT32/NTFS. Dont worry about FDISK, the functionality is there. You will not be able to format in NTFS using a Win98 bootup disk.

4.It might be just me...what's the question?

1. I still stick with ACDSee

2. I assume you mean in internet explorer? Under IE, go to 'Tools=>Internet Options'. Go to the 'Advanced' tab. Under 'Multimedia' there is an option for 'Enable Image Toolbar'.... you're gonna want to uncheck that.

3. what tsonta101 said...

4. I'm not sure.... I'm not at home right now, so i'll have to check later...

The picture viewer does not show the picture in FULL, if it is big. That's why I don't like it.

When using my unattended install CD, there was nothing asking me about NTFS. Should I just make a WinXP boot disk?

As far as #4, there is a preview pane in WinME. If you open a folder, you will see it on the left when you select an item. If the file is a picture, it will show a thumbnail, for example. Just wondering if there was a way to get this in WinXP.

EDIT: So, don't use FDISK at all?? How do I set my partitions and format then?

I'll have to check out that ACDsee

1. I use IrfanView 32. It's a clone of AcdSee but it's freeware, and actually supports more file types. IrfanView

2. the image mouseover cr*p in IE is easily disabled by right clicking it and selecting disable

the rest like the other guys said
