Windows XP Reboot Issue

I have a wierd rebooting issue. I just upgraded to 512 MB RAM, and now, when I reset my machine, it doesn't boot. The CMOS goes through the checks and gets as far as checking the floppy, but then it stalls.

I have a wierd rebooting issue.

I just upgraded to 512 MB RAM, and now, when I reset my machine, it doesn't boot.

The CMOS goes through the checks and gets as far as checking the floppy, but then it stalls.

I'm Running the following:

P4 1.8 ghz
ECS motherboard (not overly sure on nthe type, I haven't had the time to check)
512 MB RAM
64 MB Radeon 7200 SDR
Soundblaster Live! 5.1
40GB HDD
20GB HDD
16x DVD-CDROM (Asus)
Generic 32x8x12 CD-RW
Windows XP Pro

Anyone have any ideas? I have checked, double checked and triple checked and every hardware component is attached and placed correctly. I'm thinking that there might be a cooling issue (i hope not) but I don't know for sure.

Also, if I cold boot the machine it works fine.

Any ideas?

OK, silly question.
You have tried removing the memory upgrade you've just fitted and then seeing if the machine still stalls or boots ok?

And how is the memory configured? Is it 1 x 512, 2x256 or 2x128 + 1x256?

It can make a difference, as not all boards will run all configurations.

It's 2x256...

And yes, I know for a fact that everything ran fine before I put in the new memory.

Could the memory be bad?

It might have run fine before, but does it run fine after you remove the new memory? The board could have been damaged during the installation of the memory, and this would go a long way to determining that. Also, if it does work properly, try swapping out the existing module with your new one.
