Windows XP Service Pack 1 anytime soon?
Does MS plan on releasing a Service pack one for XP? Or are they going to say hell with it and instead release Windows XP SE? I know there are a lot of bugs in XP that i would like to see fixed and I don't plan on getting a new OS just to fix a few bugs

There are alternatives to Office. This one is free: http://www.software602.com/ . If you want to register it, several new components will be activated. The fee is very nominal. A second and quite elegant package is gobeProductive: http://gobe.com/products.html for $75.00. Its appeal is the site license which allows you to place a copy on your company's computers and allow those who work on it put a copy on what they use at home as an extension of their work.
The point is that the talented people who develop this software ought to be encouraged by supporting them by purchasing their products. If you really care about the MS monopoly, put your money behind those who offer good alternatives.

*Nods*
If people like to complain about MS products back other products out there.
If another company can produce a great package and sell it for $75 then MS have to do two things:
1. Make their product as good
2. Drop their prices
This is good for us all round, nobody wins except the software houses when prices stay inflated.

BladeRunner: You are missing the point. The other product is FREE. openoffice.org is FREE. FREE, FREE, FREE, FREE, FREE.
How do you compete with free software? This is why MS killed Netscape. A taste of their own medicine if you ask me. Open source is a thorn in their side.

People go for features, not price.
If it was price alone then MS Office would not be the biggest selling and most widely used Office package.
Star Office is now some £75 for business use, so can be considered an alternative.
I really do not see this "Free" office package killing MS Office on features alone.
Netscape didn't just die because of the price issue, Netscape (Come the release of IE4) was vastly inferior.

Truth be told, BladeRunner, I don't think you dealt too well back in elementary school if people teased you. I didn't either, so don't take that as an insult.
What I mean is that my sniping at you for "being from Microsoft" were jokes. I know you don't work for them. No one making that much money would waste their time posting to "defend" their software from some loser in California--Microsoft will survive whether I like it or not. I am very confident they have more money right now than they could ever put to constructive use. That will continue indefinitely.
One small thing--I ended up at NTCompatible yesterday via a Google search (for what, I forgot now), and was just casually browsing the forum when I realized I had an hour to kill, so why not make my case against you/MS. I know I have no credibility with only one post under my belt, so whatever. I didn't expect to convert you.
The difference between software piracy and stealing a pair of K-Swiss's from the store is that all MS loses is a potential payment. There is no lost inventory(unless you steal the actual box). The store loses both their K-Swiss's and the "potential for payment."
That's why you can't make me feel guilty.
have a good day
