Windows XP Service Pack 2 destroyed files
This is a discussion about Windows XP Service Pack 2 destroyed files in the Everything New Technology category; Hi. A friend of mine gave me his laptop since something odd has happened: There was Windows XP on the Laptop (with SP1). After install of SP2 some programs would not run correctly (obviously Office and some financial Programs for Tax calculation etc).
Hi.
A friend of mine gave me his laptop since something odd has happened: There was Windows XP on the Laptop (with SP1). After install of SP2 some programs would not run correctly (obviously Office and some financial Programs for Tax calculation etc). Since this seems to be inevitable it was tried to remove service pack 2. Since then (or maybe even while SP2 was still on it) quite some files (word documents, jpeg images and more) are not working anymore - they seem to contain garbage.
Does SP2 fiddle around with the file system? What could have happened and how could it be resolved?
Any suggestions?

Try to do repair installation for your Office.
I suspect that SP2 removal somehow messed your office document converters.
Then again, I can be wrong.
