Nero 5.5.4.0 works without any layers on XP, probably the new version as well (5551). WinOnCD does not like XP at all, I dont think there is anyone who got it working. CDRWin and Fireburner work only after installing an ASPI layer.
Any more questions?

Nero uses it's own ASPI layer (it stores a copy of wnaspi32.dll in the install directory).
I've heard tell that WinOnCD and CDRWin will work if you copy this file into their respective install directories.
