Wolfenstein Error!
Game crashes when trying to quick load or loading after death in Single player mode. I've increased the allocated memory to 192 because of 256Mgs of memory in my system. Win2000 sp2, P4 1. 5 Ghz Mpro Game is amazing other than this.

I'm confused...Are you saying you changed the pagefile to 192? Otherwise I dont get what your trying to say here...
Just got the game myself, and gotta say it Rules!!! But it takes a sh@tload of memory to run it. On my setup, I typically run with 120 MB RAM used with my startup apps, etc. But after playing RTCW for about an hour, it will have shot up to around 500 MB RAM used during the game. Of course I've got the RAM to use, but its a RAM hungry game!
Try different Video drivers, possibly even sound card drivers if your mot updated. Also, do you see any errors in the event log?

Hmm, another game to chalk up on my list for excessive memory usage. Nasty. Are developers getting lazy these days? The excessive use of memory in AVP2 led to alot of crashes and disk thrashing on my system (sometimes the game exceeded 650+ (when I was looking...may have gone higher when not). Good thing I hav 768mb of ram!
Hardcore gamers want and demand games that not only tell a good story, but also want the absolute best in graphics, AI, player immersion into the games world, etc.
Games have gone up in style in leaps and bounds since a few years ago, along with their diskspace usage, memory and hardware requirements. IOW, you cant have your cake and and icing free anymore.
Pong is dead.
LONG LIVE PONG!!!
(Sorry...need sleepy... )

i experience same problem.
i have hunkmegs set at 256MB and soundmegs at 32MB
auto loading, or just plainly after dying and loading, it will sometimes crash to desktop after lots of HD activity , which i then hit esc booting to desktop, without hitting esc it takes awhile for it to boot out to desktop. no data is lost from this, and game runs fine by just re running it after the crash. its just a pain having to load from main menue every so often.
(while playing there is no HD activity due to most running of ram)
this is avoided by just when you die exit to main menue and load from there.
i read that this is a problem with the nvidia 21.81 drivers and the game, but i havent changed mine yet.. what drivers you using?
im sure this will be fixed in a patch.

according to the people at activision its due to not having a set pagefile size.. if you leave it on auto page file in win2k it will occasionaly cause a crash on level restart after dying .
well i havent changed my pagefile since i have already fininshed the game so i wont bother tryin to fix it now if your still looking for a fix give that a try and see if it solves the problem.

I just started experiencing this problem too, using a Radeon 8500LE so its not Nvidia related, I also got SP3 now and still the game crashes after quickloading or dying in SP. I have the game patched to 1.33 and still the problem persists. But I don't have this problem in WinME, so I dual into the crappy OS and hey at least it works.
it says right in the readme that the hunkmegs is flawed.
I was crashing after dying and refused to accept that hunkmegs was at fault.
I finally turned it off and my problem vanished.
edit: I just double checked...I was in error. It is not mentioned in readme.
I can't remember how i found out now.

I have win2k sp4 installed and I finally got the quickload in Return To Castle Wolfenstein to work, but there is one slight problem. In the autoexec.cfg file I added the line "set s_initsound 0" Therefore I have no sound but it works. If anyone could resolve my sound issues I would appreciate it.
