Wscript??
This is a discussion about Wscript?? in the Legacy OS category; One of the win98 box here at work has been acting up lately, i scanned it for virus but none was found. What happens is that everytime you open up explorer, it gives you a prompt about Active X scripts and if you would like to activate it.

What happens is that everytime you open up explorer, it gives you a prompt about Active X scripts and if you would like to activate it. Networking and actually the whole pc itself has become really slow. I checked the task manager and noticed alot of 'Wscript' being run. Anybody know what the problem might be?
TIA

I know you've scanned it but it really smells like a virus.
For example there is the Wscript.KakWorm virus which is quite nasty as it runs from the preview pane of Outlook Express.
For more information I recommend checking out Sarc.com here

Hope this helps.

What version of win98 and what version of IE?
Do an AV Scan from DOS or Safe Mode .... far more reliable results when the OS is 9X based.
See what happens when you change the default assocation from windows script to command script. IE = wscript //H:cscript
HTH
