XP 2481 and sharing....

I've got an interesting problem. I'm running XP 2481 as a member of a Windows 2000 domain. The domain consists of one Win2K box, one WinXP box, 2 Windows ME boxes, and Windows 2000 Advanced Server. The problem I'm running into is unique to XP, it appears.

The problem I'm running into is unique to XP, it appears. I can't share any folders on the XP machine and use the domain to add users to the list. I click on the "Look In" button, and the only thing I see is the local machine. Could this be a DNS issue, or Active Directory? I find it strange because I have no problems with any of the other boxes.

If you are using the reset2 activation crack, it is what is causing the problem. I am running a workgroup and the only way I got around it was to remove the reset.bat file from the startup folder (all users), reboot, run the network setup wizard, enable the share, go to local security policies under administrative tools and choose Network Accss: Sharing and security model for local accounts: Classic - local users authenticate as themselves. I then rebooted with the reset.bat file out of the startup folder, checked to see if the shares work, run the reset.bat manually, put it back in the startup folder, and reboot again. This should work.

If you are not using an activation crack, then it is just a bug :):

Not using reset crack.... I think I figured it out.... It is that f**king active directory, which, I can see why it exists, but I don't need it. I run one domain here, and really don't need all that functionality.... Er... More crap to break.... I'm making progress now - at least in the "Look In" box, I can see the tree..... Hopefully I'll have this all figured out tonight....

Well - after staying up half the night, I finally got it to work. I can now share correctly across the Win2K domain with WinXP. Previously, Netbios shares worked fine, but I guess they changed it in XP and if you're connecting to a Win2K domain you have to use Active Directory. So, to make a long story short, I had to reconfigure my Active Directory settings, update my DNS server and set it to forward Internet requests to my router. What a pain in the butt just to get shares to work....
