XP Logon screen grey

Running an XP system with several users. Very inconsistently after a user logs off, the logon screen will go grey and not accept any new user information. The only way to log back on again is to shut down/restart.

How many user acoounts do you have, how many are admin, guest etc.

Can you describe EXACTLY what the screen looks like, what you are able to do/not do etc.

OP
27 User accounts
1 "Administrator" account with administrative rights
3 other accounts with administrative rights
23 password protected limited accounts
Guest account is turned off.

At times, but not always, when one user logs off (administrator or otherwise) and the "Log on to windows" screen comes back up asking for a username and password, those fields are grey and will not accept any input. (no cursor appears, cannot enter the fields, they are grey'd out) No choice but to sd/rs

I am guessing that logonui.exe is crashing.

SP2 installed?
Are the same accounts logging out causing this grey screen?
Event logs?

Whats the reason for 27 accounts on one machine. It just seems to me to be overkill unless ya got a BIG family
