XP Pro workstation thinks it has two computer names in logon

This is a discussion about XP Pro workstation thinks it has two computer names in logon in the Windows Networking category; When I set up a new computer at work, usually I have to add its computer name into the server to register it onto the domain (Red Hat 7. 3 server). This works fine. The computer I'm having problems with was originally on the network, but I need to change the computer name to reflect its room change.

The computer I'm having problems with was originally on the network, but I need to change the computer name to reflect its room change. First off I changed the Computer Name settings to put the machine onto a workgroup, rebooted it, then changed the name. When I go to log back into the PC, under the list of Domains it can logon to, it shows the work's domain, its new computer name and its old one. Now it is refusing to connect to the domain, saying the resource is already being used.

How do I get out of this issue? I've switched computer names on other PCs at work with no issue.

Make sure you have the new Computer account under AD

Then remove the old computer name under AD then try again
