At one of the offices I take care of there are 2 XP machines, 1 W2K machine and 6 or so 9.x machines. The NT5.0 machine is the server, so to speak. Whenever I map a drive from one of the XP machines to the 2000 machine XP doesn't remember the login and always puts a red X on the network drive until I click on it and login into it. The when i restart it starts all over again.

The user account information on the XP machines are the same as the accounts listed on the 2000 machine. So why is it not automatically logging into the share? I don't have this problem on any other mixed offices. Usually if the username and password matches on both machines there is NO additional login required, what am I missing?

Are you running AD on the Windows 200 Server?

And when you map the drive does it ask you to remember your password?

Maybe you need to disable simple filesharing on WinXP:

1. Start Button -> My Computer
2. In the menu of My Computer select "Tools" -> "Folder Options"
3. In "Folder Options" select the "View" fan
4. Uncheck the setting "Use Simple File Sharing (Recommended)"
