Greets,

Has anyone come across the ability to log into Safemode(any type) yet have login issues when logging into XP from either login -- initial login screen or old win2k/NT 'crtl-alt-dlt'?? I recently uninstalled 2003 Norton Internet Security from my system, to find that when I log into XP, it says my password is incorrect for any acct...mind you I had the system set to boot into the desktop. I used the old win2k/NT login to find that it doesn't like the handle, for any 3 of the accts listed. This includes Admin, Guest, and my personal. I can boot into safemode and everything is hunky-dory. I've tried sys restore to no avail. Obviously I have no clue to why it is letting me log in to safemode but not XP. Is it possible there is a driver corrupt that safemode is eliminating? Any possible viri/spyware/adware, et al, floating around that have this m-o?

It's not a huge deal since I have the ability to grab the info off the hd that I need, but would rather find out what the problem is and surpass the bother of reformatting.

Any ideas are much appreciated!

Alrighty....

Got passed the login screen by going into safemode to initialize autologin again through control userpasswords2.

Next prob, will log into desktop and does a countdown from 1 min claiming the lsass.exe service terminated. code 128. I've yet to check the net on this, however, if anyone beats me to it please let me know.

Thanks

The grand finale;

Looks like I didn't reboot before plugging in another firewall and thus things were rather out-of-whack. Nothing like a simple 20 sec procedure bring 8 hours of disgust.
