98 to win2k upgrade but programs can't find their sublinks

98 to win2k upgrade but programs can't find their sublinks ie. dll etc. Should I FDISK the HD for a clean install? Is this lack of upgrade success a MS feature? ;( Thanks in Advance ! Greg.

Does anyone know how to rename the start button in w2k? In 98 there was a prg called winboost that did it for ya. But haven't been able to find anything like that for w2k. Any suggestions, hints, directions would be greatly appreciated.

Dual boot MS-DOS 6.22 and NT Wks 4?

Im going to inherit an old Pentium based system within the next few weeks. The plan is to format it and use it as a file/backup server on my home network with NT4 as the OS (which it should be able to cope with fingers crossed).

After screwing up one of my accounts I created a fresh profile and imported my settings from the old one, and then removed the account from the computer managment console, and deleted the directory from the 'documents and settings' dir.

I need some help with setting admin rights on Win2000 Pro. . . I used to belong do Admin group, which allowed me to do everything. This is a bad thing, and I decided to play Mr. Nice Guy and switch back to default Power Users group.

I am a school teacher who is trying to prevent pupils setting desktop items to anything other than the standard blue screen. They are saving in appropriate pictures as screen savers. I am using NT4 and windows 2000.

I just found out that QoS in WinXP reserves 20% of my bandwidth by default. And I can tell you that changing this does make a huge difference. Its easy so why not do it. Go to Start/Run/ and type gpedit.

Getting XP Movie Maker moved to Win2k

I have Windows 2000 and XP Pro. I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to extract the Windows Movie Maker files from the XP CD so I can install it to Win2k? I am going to set up a machine strictly for video editing and I am going to use Win2k.

How do I re-install the parport.sys driver?

Whilst trying to save memory I removed the parport driver in device manager. . and now we have a new printer I need it back. How do I get Windows XP to reinstall this driver? It recognises the Port and the Printer but parport.

SERVICES.EXE 100% CPU useage

I have a Windows 2000 machine and sometimes at startup SERVICES. EXE takes up 100% of my CPU. Sometimes this happens for a few seconds but sometimes it stays until the next time I restart. Sys. specs.

Windows 2000 Pro speed problem

I have recently installed Win 2000 Pro as I heard that it is faster than my Win98 i had previously. But i found that it runs much slower and often takes like a minute or so to open an app or change between apps while they are alredy open.

Hi everyone, Does anyone know why it takes so long for XP to log users in and out? My machines boot up very fast (all of my NICS have static IP addresses), so they get to the welcome screen very quickly.

Disable loading of "useless" .sys files on startup

I ve being testing renaming some of the sys files that load on startup (check your ntbtlog. txt) to tweak my win2k box a bit more I could disable the following files without any inconvenience still.
