Locking file associations

Hello all, Is there some way to completely lock file associations in XP Pro? I would like to set the associations to my liking and then, hopefully, do something to the registry so that even if the world ends nothing can alter those associations again.

Is there anything called xp logo check which can be turned off. The reason is when I try to install the game Prince of Persia 3D (installshield wizard installs the game) after about 80% of the game is installed, a windows pops up saying the program has performed an illegal operation and needs to be closed down.

Boot Files problem

I copy Boot. ini , ntldr and ntdetect to a floppy. however , it can't boot bacause those files are hidden ( DOS can't read ) , I want to uncheck Hidden in File Property of those files , it didn't work 'cause the Hidden button also hidden.

When I install Win XP , my computer can't detect Smartdrive even though I run smartdrv. exe before installing ? How can I make it detect Smartdrive ? Thanks.

I was just wondering that in the Program Files folder there's a Common Files folder. What is this folder exactly for? I mean it seems to have lots of vital files that I need but I'm just wondering what it is exactly.

Improve Hibernate performance

I find the hibernate function very useful, but a tad slow. It usually takes a full minute to resume from power on. Although I have noticed a speed increase from 2000 and I have quite a bit of memory installed (512) I think it should be a bit quicker than this.

Hello, My problem is I have win2000 installed om my c: drive, this drive is soon out of space so I want to copy the total C disk to another disk. But The c:disk is my boot disk. (that might my a problem i think) It's not possible to create more space om my C: drive.

Installed XP and lost my ME Boot

I have (For the 2nd time) Installed XP Pro When I did this first time around (When it was released) it recognised my existing ME boot and automatically created a multi boot config on startup. I lost that XP install when I changed Mobo (BSOD on boot) and never bothered installing again till now.

Screen Saver - Power Mgmt - Reboot - Help?

I need to configure a couple of workstations (Win2k - SP2) to reboot themselves after the screensaver has been active for more than 30 minutes. The screen saver is password protected. I need to log out the user, and return the computer to a usable state for the next user without administrative intevention.

My power save is not working anymore and I'm not sure why. It worked about a week ago and for a long time now, then it just stopped power saving. I checked the properties for power save and it's set at 10 minutes it will turn off.

Hi Guys, Wonder if anyone can proffer some advice. My Computer is as follows: Athlon 2100+ Abit AT7 Motherboard 512Mb PC2100 DDR Gainward GeForce4 4600 Golden Sample IBM Deskstar GXP 30Gb (on RAID) Windows XP SP1 This should be a fairly quick set up.
