XP problem with shared network drive

At one of the offices I take care of there are 2 XP machines, 1 W2K machine and 6 or so 9. x machines. The NT5. 0 machine is the server, so to speak. Whenever I map a drive from one of the XP machines to the 2000 machine XP doesn't remember the login and always puts a red X on the network drive until I click on it ...

A couple of minor niggles

nothing especially wrong, but these are things i would like to know about please (Win2k SP3) 1 is there any way to protect the reg settings for speakers? some games like to reset them to stereo instead of surround 2 my PC has a tendany to alt-tab progs by itself, the longer its left on the worse it gets.

IE 6.0 can't show images

The Internet Explorer 6. 0 sp1 in windows XP can't show out the image with links (link list with the hand cursor)in intranet. I tried using Opera and all the image are shown. So i sure that is the IE problem.

How to force workstation using particular screensaver via NT

When logon to network, the windows 98 client load the policy (config. pol) in NTserver machine, all the setting in the policy is activated and the wallpaper is ok but the screensaver can't activated.

Is there something special about USB 2.0 and Win2K?

What I mean is Is the installation of a USB 2. 0 driver for Win2K radically different to that for WinXP or WinME? Here's the problem. I use a Win2K PC based around a QDI motherboard and when I built and then set the machine up I installed QDI's USB 2.

Changing font size when changing resolution

I have increased my resolution from 1024x768 to 1280x1024 and have gone through the list under display properties/appearence to increase the sizes to 12 pt, but there are still dialog boxes, namely the save as that are small and hard to read.

Only have 16 colors as a choice?

I changed monitors. Went to display settings and saw I only had 16 colors as my only choice. Went back to my original monitor, same thing. Upgraded service pack, downloaded new video drivers and still can not get more colrs.

Hello all, I am at a loss finding the setting that will force my WinXP Pro machine to automatically log onto my account at Boot up. I am the only account on the machine, and every time I restart, Windows stops at the logon screen asking for my user name and password (this account has no password).

Hi, On one of my 2003 servers I use tightVNC to remotely log in. However the server locks itself after being idle for a little while. I can't unlock through VNC , I have to physically log on to the server and unlock it before I am able to use VNC with it If anyone could tell me how to disable the automatic locking ...

Everytime I connect to the net by dialup this service runs with 99% of my cpu. I cannot make any internet connections until I manually kill this service. I have a total of 3 running. What the hell is this and how the hell can I make it stop pissing me off?.

The 'My Music' folder has lost it's icon on the start menu

The link to the 'My Music' folder on the XP start menu seems to have lost it's icon (you know usually it's a pic of a folder with a music note overlayed on it). It's just a blank folder now. Also the same if you view it in My Documents through Windows Explorer or in the Open dialog boxes.

i guess this could be considered a configuration tweak but anyway, i used to have windows me installed. i could play mpeg2 video files. i did not have any dvd software installed either. what i had installed was real player, media player, divx, quick time.

Hi, Anyone know an easy way to repair a whole hive in XP? Every time I open HKCR in regedit my pc reboots. All other keys are fine. I tried the system roll back, but it gives me problems going back further than a day.
