I have Windows 98se and in my resources it says my memory is running at 48%. I have used msconfig and unchecked any unwanted Items and I have also ran spybot and fixed any spyware running in the back round.

best way to back up win98 home pc

my dad was wondering the best way to backup his home pc (dell dimension, win98). outside of purchasing expensive TBU drive/software, i'm not sure of the best, cheapest way to go about doing this. he does have a cd-burner, but i'm not sure if that's possible.

Missing MSCONFD file on loadup

We obtained high speed Internet connection 3/4 months ago and got a Worm on our machine. We got that issue resolved but have been getting Illegal Operations ever since and also a message after entering the Userid and Password; this message is MSCONFD is missing.

I like Windows 2000 a lot, more than Two left-footed Windows 9x, yet it wasn't untill I upgraded to a Seagaste Technologies 60GB 7200 RPM Harddrive that I saw the benifits for me and my GCSE coursework using Windows 2000

i uninstalled norton antivirus from my home pc, which has win98SE on it. uninstall went fine. but i went to reboot & nothing!!! it just hangs there. i tried a boot-up disk & put norton cd back in. then it did a scan on every file, which took about 10 hours.

Uploading file problems

When trying to upload a file, say 100MB it stops after about 3-5MB. There's plenty of room on server I'm upping to. But why does it stop? Thanks,.

Sound Hardware Error

I have a win98 pc that will not play cd's. it plays sounds when turning on/off the pc. but when i place a cd in, i get an error: Error ID = 0x80040256. Remedy ID = 0x00000000 then it says something about no sound card, etc.

In relation to this URL: I flashed my BIOS with the 5EH flashes - it's actually not improved my BIOS (the real reason I wanted to flash my computer was so that it would recognise the 80gig drive I have in it now) - but it didn't do that - and now the sound and my network card doesn't work.

Do old dos games really run well on win9x

I have a dual boot machine machine with win98se and win xp sp1 I installed win98se only to play my old games. So far I have seen for past 3 months that only a few games (1998-2001) run which didn't in win xp but the dos games run most unsatisfactorily.

Im using win 98se and whenever I do a install that prompts you to restart your computer or even if I just try to restart it, It goes to the windows screen before the restart and just sits there. Any one have any ideas how to fix this? Would it be a hardware issue or a software issue? Thanks for any help you can give.

This is a very odd problem, and it goes like this. . . I'll boot up my cpu into win98se, and it'll start up fine. I'll use it for a while, then, at some point i'll have to reboot, but once i reboot and get to the logon screen, a few things may happen.

Installing an OS without a CD Rom drive

Hi i have got this really old 166Mhz computer and i need to reinstall windows 98 into it, however it does not have a CD rom drive, but it does exist on a network, i am wondering how am i supposed to do a network install, any help would be useful.
