At my rural residence I can only connect to internet by dial up or the nextG broadband service. I have a Bigpond external USB modem which has drivers for Windows XP but I have wasted too much time trying to get it to work with Linux.

So all was good till this week (had this laptop since 2005), when I go to plug in my USB camera (Kodak Z760 on a dock) and the computer freezes. I contact HP support and during the 4 conversations I have done the following.

after recently switching out my power supply ive run into some roadblocks. first upon start up with ps/2 keyboard plugged in the lights flash once on the keyboard then go off and i get stuck at a screen that says cmos checksum bad as the keyboard no longer works.

I've got XP installed on a 160GB basic drive and I've got two 320GB dynamic drives that are mirrored. I bought a new 250GB drive that I'm going to install Vista on it but for some reason Disk Management is not letting me format and partition as a basic.

I've got short lines all over the screen and resolutin is stuck on 600x480 4 bit/can't change it. New card/reinstalled 3 times/ same results. Reinstalled my Radeon X800se every time, runs fine. Looked for AGP updates/KN8 Triton MB didn't find any.

OK, so I work for a local POS company and at one time we used boxes with XP Embedded for the client side OS. Well these are actually nice little boxes, they are based on the C3 cpu and of course that means the VIA chipset too with the crappy onboard graphics.

I have a computer that is used for gaming and work. Dell XPS 400. It initially came with 2x512mb sticks or RAM installed. I went out and bought 2x1gb RAM. Installed them. Everything seems fine. The computer recognizes them along with the 512 sticks.
