I have been trying to fix a friends Dell dimension 2350 with XP Home. It seems that something or someone has messed up the security rights. The first problem was trying to uninstall Zonealarm 5. 0, it kept saying I didn't have access to change system configurations.

Outlook Express allows port scanning

Whenever I use Outlook Express I start to have my ports scanned. If I'm surfing the net and use any other application whether thats IE6, MSN Messenger, Real Player or WM Player without Outlook Express then no scanning takes place.

Cannot install hotfixes

This is really starting to annoy me. I simply cannot install the hotfixes being offer my MS onto my XP system. Either from with Windows Update site or by downloading the hotfixes manually and apply them.

Well for all of those who have recently tried to slipstream the latest Microsoft patches into their work, you will have noticed that they dropped the ball again! KB835732 which replaces KB824141 workes with most of the files it is supposed to replace/deploy.

NT Security Event Log not logging all failed attempts

Our PDC is not logging all failed logon attempts any longer. It used to log any attempt by anyone to logon to the network if it failed due to bad user name or bad password. Now it only logs failed attempts if you try to logon to the network at the PDC, but not for clients who try to logon.
