Accelenation.com has posted an interview with Abit's Scott Thirwell.

Is it true that the KR7 is based on a newer stepping of the KT266 (KT266 Pro?)? If so, why did Abit choose to wait for this newer stepping?

The KR7 is still currently in the R&D phase. Some have found great performance and reliability with the current chipset. Our demands at ABIT our strict. The people who work in every department of ABIT are like our users. We push our motherboards beyond the standard. In our minds, average is simply not an option. These increased expectations ask a lot of a chipset as well. As I mentioned in my last answer, I think the VIA KT266 will be a very strong chipset and the KR7 a great board, as soon as we are able to enhance the overall performance and stability.

PC Stats has put up an new article about "Fluorescent Multi-Layer Memory"

Further qualifications are imposed on the fluorescent material when a recordable (not just readable) system is contemplated. The fluorescence must be either capable of being switched on or off, or it must be susceptible to a threshold at which it stops changing once it is written on. Thermal bleaching techniques attempt to solve this problem by using a fluorescent substance that loses its fluorescence as soon as it´s written on (becoming a permanent layer).

My modded Alpha PEP66T wouldn´t fit on the KK266-R, so I decided to go with an oldie, but goodie, the GlobalWin FOP38. Now remembering how hard I had to push down on the clip, I decided to use a shim (yes, I´m a wuss...) And that proved to be my folly.

Everything looked in place and ready to go, however, I felt something was wrong. Not being able to put my finger on it, I decided to go ahead. It POSTed at 1400 MHz, just as expected, however when I hit the delete key, instead of going into the familiar blue BIOS screen, everything went black.
